Sales per Share is the ratio of a company's annual revenue to its average number of shares outstanding for a given year. A higher ratio is seen as indicating an active company that has successfully used its resources to produce sales.
Sales are what it all begins. Without Sales, there is no money coming in through the door and no business. Strong and consistent sales figures indicate a company with a product that is in demand and popular with consumers.
The best companies maintain and grow their Sales through organic expansion into new markets and by winning new customers. However, Sales can also grow through acquisition, where the company buys another company and adds its Sales to their ‘Top Line’. This is nor considered as good a way to grow as through organic growth.
NOTE: In the case of Banks, revenue is defined as the sum of Net Interest Income and Non-Interest Income.
