Blessings in a Bag visits Philippines!

Hello all!  Recently, we were able to travel for a few days to the Philippines.  I went with a core-team member, Joyce, who manages the Blessings in a Bag network in the Philippines as well as Desiree, who’s helping us out with Scribbly Friends (http://www.scribblyfriends.org)  We were also humbled by two other individuals who followed our trip to film us for an upcoming episode on Channel U - they were from threesixzero productions.

We stayed for two nights in Manila and visited our beneficiaries there:

  • C.R.I.B.S Foundation who takes in abandoned, orphaned babies and children as well as looking after and educating girls between the ages of 7 and 17 who have been sexually or physically abused.
  • Virlanie Foundation who has built up a community of street children living together (They help over 1000 children).

We then traveled via plane to Legaspi and visited our other beneficiary who has been with us since our start in the non-profit world.  Tiwala Kids and Communities, situated afoot an active volcano and atop a beautiful mountain, reaches out to street children, poor communities as well as to the slum villages in the area.

We were deeply touched and learnt so many things whilst visiting the Philippines and cannot wait to return over the summer with the rest of the Blessings in a Bag Team.  We saw many needs and have started brainstorming ideas for other ways we can help reach out to them!

We’re hoping that many of you reading this will want to donate items such as Blessing Bags, Books, Clothing, etc. - all of the items are listed under WISHLIST.

We’re also hoping that for those of you who are traveling to the Philippines from Singapore -either to Manila or Legaspi - will get in touch with us to be part of the Blessings in a Bag movement.  All it takes is extra space in your luggage or hand carry in order to bring over the donations and drop them off.
